The Assistive Technology Service

The Assistive Technology Service is for:

  • Individuals with documented disabilities who require accommodations for academic, professional/business and test taking environments.
  • Individuals who wish to explore and receive training in alternative multisensory and technological approaches to reading, writing, research and study skills.
  • Organizations seeking to provide employees with accommodations for improving work performance.
  • Educational institutions seeking one-on-one and/or group training for teachers and students in Texthelp Systems software Read&Write GOLD 8.1 or Kurzweil Educational Systems Kurzweil 3000. For more information, visit texthelp.com and kurzweiledu.com.

Consultation Services Include:

  • Assistive technology needs assessment, selection and customization.
  • Independent evaluation of writing skills.
  • Documentation of assistive technology and other accommodations for school, work and test taking situations.
  • Customized and individualized one-on-one training modules in the use of Read&Write Gold 8.1 or Kurzweil 3000.
  • Coordination of documentation and services with other professionals to establish accommodations and assistive technology needs.

Special Note: Through its New York State licensed school, Tekne Interaction Systems, Inc. also incorporates the use of Read&Write GOLD 8.1 or Kurzweil 3000 in its Foundations Courses. For more information about this program, refer to the school’s Course Catalog. The Writing Rhythms! Foundations courses offered by Tekne’s school integrate instruction in the writing process with Texthelp Systems or Kurzweil Educational Systems software as an instructional aid. The Assistive Technology Service provides training solely in the use of the software or other relevant device. The Assistive Technology Service is independent of Tekne Interaction Systems Inc. New York State licensed school. Individuals may request assistive technology services without applying for admission or enrolling in the School. For individuals enrolled in Tekne's school, tuition does not include assistive technology services.
